A New Take on the Negroni With a Twist

The original Negroni is a classic, simple, balanced, and instantly recognizable. But sometimes the best way to honor a classic is to give it a little shake. This Negroni with a twist swaps out the expected for something a bit more adventurous and it works better than you might think.

Sotol and Gin Make It New

Instead of sticking with just gin, this version brings in sotol blanco, a spirit from Northern Mexico that’s herbal, earthy, and a little unexpected. It doesn’t have the heavy smoke of mezcal but still gives a nice sense of depth and origin.

That earthy flavor blends surprisingly well with the botanicals in gin. It keeps the structure of a Negroni but adds something more grounded and unique.

What It Tastes Like

You still get the classic bitter edge from Campari and the sweet balance of vermouth, but the sotol brings in a rustic character. It’s complex without being overwhelming. The result is bold, balanced, and a little mysterious.

Best Way to Serve It

Serve it over a big cube of ice in a short glass. A twist of grapefruit peel brings out some brightness and a fresh rosemary sprig adds an extra herbal touch if you’re feeling fancy.

What to Eat With It

This version of the Negroni goes well with grilled dishes like steak, charred vegetables, or spicy tacos. It’s also a great match with aged cheeses or spiced nuts if you’re just having a snack.
